Welcome to the latest issue of Countdown 2005, the newsletter of the Microcredit Summit Campaign. This issue features an interview with the Director General of the International Labor Organization, Juan Somavia, on the ILO's support of microcredit programs throughout the world. We have reprinted the speech made by H.M. Queen Sofia of Spain at the opening ceremony of the 1999 Meeting of Councils in Abidjan. The Action Plan presentation featured in this issue is that of ZAKOURA, a Moroccan microcredit institution. This issue's Best Practices examines the Summit Campaign's core theme of ensuring access to savings and its impact on the lives of clients.
