This is a special double issue of Countdown 2005 on the 1998 Meeting of Councils. Nearly 1,000 people from 107 countries gathered for the 1998 Microcredit Summit Meeting of Councils held June 25-27 in New York City. This issue of Countdown 2005 contains highlights from the meeting. We feature excerpts from President Alberto Fujimori's speech at the opening plenary, pieces of three Meet the Challenge presentations on Empowering women, and Institutional Action Plans from 12 Councils that were presented at the meeting. A tentative agenda for the 1999 Meeting of Councils is here as well. And this issue's "Resources" section highlights the work of CIDA through an interview with Huguette Labelle.
