Her highness, the wife of his majesty and the chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Woman (SCW), Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim al Khalifa, received here today Sam Daley-Harris, director of the Microcredit Summit Campaign.
Shaikha Sabeeka lauded efforts exerted by Microcredit Summit Campaign to reach the world’s poorest families, especially the women of those families, with credit for self-employment, hailing the success they achieved in the kingdom of Bahrain in helping this category of people. Shaikha Sabeeka affirmed on providing support programmes to empower Bahraini woman through SCW and other governmental and public bodies. Her highness affirmed that many small and medium industries were established and improved by SCW including catering, tailoring and transportation in addition to efforts by the ministry of social development and woman societies in carrying out similar projects. The head of microcredit summit campaign made a display on the projects of this campaign, hailing efforts by Shaikha Sabeeka in helping needy families. The first microcredit summit, held February 2-4, 1997, gathered more than 2,900 people from 137 countries in Washington, dc. They launched a nine-year campaign to reach 100 million of the world’s poorest families.
