State of the Microcredit Summit Campaign Report 2002

The Microcredit Summit Campaign released its State of the Microcredit Summit Campaign Report 2002 on November 10, 2002, at the opening ceremony of the Microcredit Summit +5 held in New York City. This annual report is the best measure we have for tracking progress towards the Microcredit Summit Campaign goal. The report states that as of December 31, 2001, 2,186 microcredit institutions reported reaching 54.9 million clients, 26.8 million of whom were among the poorest when they took their first loan. Nine hundred and ninety-four microcredit institutions submitted a 2002 Institutional Action Plan outlining their progress. The Campaign was able to verify data from 211 institutions, representing 21.8 poorest families or 81 percent of the total poorest reported.
