As a journalist and a concerned citizen of the world, I followed the dawn of the microcredit movement with great interest. And when we started the UN Foundation, we asked Muhammad Yunus to be one of our original Directors, and he has been a tremendous influence and given us a lot of inspiration and also has seen to it that the UN Foundation has a strong interest in microcredit around the world and due to his leadership, we made a $3 million grant to the United Nations to expand microcredit to an additional 20 countries in the past couple of years and [there is] no investment that we’ve made that we’re more excited and optimistic about ... this is just a terrific program.
