A recent CGAP Focus Note reported that between 2004 and 2006, investments in microfinance institutions (MFIs) nearly tripled, reaching a total of US$4 billion.<br /><br />Despite this influx in capital, the World Bank’s World Development Report counted 986 million people in the developing world still living below the US$1 a day threshold.<br /><br />Is the surge in investments reflected by improving conditions among the very poor?
